I would not say that MBTI is necessarily predictive, but neither is it useless, even when the person is sitting across from you. Or, in my case, when you’ve been married to that person for years and don’t understand certain behaviours.

Jeremy. By the time you have two or three dates, some degree of predictability is likely.
Understanding motivation is a second issue. I suppose you could ask. Because sometimes she’s bored or sad or angry or distracted. Some people have the social presentation of a that wall over there and knowing their M-B is kind of useless because you don’t want to hang with somebody who’s social presentation is pretty much like that wall over there. Now, if you had some reason to try to figure it out, that would be different. But that’s usually done by professionals for a fee. Or grad students putting together a dissertation or something. Certainly not one of the high points of the dating life.
Getting to know people takes time and interaction.

FWIW I’ve shown the MBTI online test to my friends and all were intrigued.

What surprised me was that many of my closest friends are of two “types” ENFJ and INTJ. I made a comment that I seem to collect rare people, and its a bit of a running joke among us now.
